Hate Crime and Wise UP!
Hate crime is when somebody offends, makes fun of, bullies, puts down or makes someone feel uncomfortable because of:
- Where they come from
- Their skin colour, religion or culture
- A disability/ illness
- If they are a girl or boy (gender)
- Who they choose to like/be friends with
- What someone looks like
At St. Bridget’s, any sort of hate crime is not tolerated. We promote a non-judgemental environment where everyone can be respected and treated equally and where everyone is kind and caring and feels safe. We have robust policies in place to tackle hate crime and bullying and we understand these issues need to remain a high priority to protect and educate our children.
Each year St. Bridget’s takes part in Warrington Wise Up School Awards. Wise Up is a local hate crime initiative led by Warrington Borough Council Hate Crime Partnership together with Warrington Speak Up. They recognise and celebrate the excellent work that Warrington schools are doing to tackle the issues of bullying and hate crime. St. Bridget’s currently hold the Gold Award. St. Bridget’s are constantly reviewing and revising our policies and procedures to ensure they are relevant to the modern life are children lead.
