Welcome-to-Year-64A6A2912B48F94477047

My name is Mr Calderbank and I am delighted to be teaching year 6 this year. Along with Mrs Williamson, our year 6 teaching assistant, we will be guiding your children through this exciting and challenging year!

On this page you will find lots of important information and photographs of the exciting things that we will get up to in class. It will also be updated regularly with class news and links to websites that you may find helpful to support your child's learning.

Should you have any questions, worries or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me on the door, call the school or email me at the address: t.calderbank@stbridgetscps.co.uk

I look forward to working in partnership with you to help your child achieve their best.

School day

Magic Breakfast will be available for the children from 08:35 when our door opens.
Registration will then take place at 08:45.
School ends at 15:15 and children in year 6 will either walk home independently or be collected from the year 6 classroom.

The children are encouraged to bring a water bottle in daily. Children may bring in fruit as a snack at playtimes.

PE

Year 6will have P.E every Tuesday and Friday. Children should come to school in the correct PE uniform. Plain white t-shirt/polo, plain black leggings, joggers or shorts, plain black jacket/school jumper (no logos on PE uniform). Children must also take their earrings out to participate in the lesson. If your child is unable to remove their earrings themselves, please ensure this is done before the start of school.

Spelling

For spelling we will continue to send worksheets home weekly. These will focus  on spelling rules and patterns as well as covering the statutory spellings for year 6.

These words should be practised at home and returned to class by Friday. Your child's spelling test from the previous week will be sent home with their new spellings for them to revise any words they got wrong.

Year 6 Homework Expectations

Spellings

Year 6 spellings will be sent home on a Monday. Please  help your child practise and learn these spellings ready for their test on Friday.

Maths

We use doodle maths to supplement the children's learning in class. Please ensure your child  completes at least 30mins of Doodle maths per week.

Reading

Children should read as much as possible at home. We ask for a minimum of 3 sessions per week. In year 6, this may be done on Reading Plus or through signing and returning reading records. Children are responsible for changing their own books in class when they need a new book.
