Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022
Y3/4 Football Tournament
On Wednesday 22nd June, Orford Jubilee Hub hosted a day to celebrate the Commonwealth Games being hosted in Birmingham next month. Lots of schools took part in many different events but St Bridget's took one team of Y3/4 children to play in the football tournament.
We were in a group with 4 other schools. The first game ended 1-0 to St Benedict's with a last minute winner, meaning the team were up against qualifying for the next round. The next game against Oakwood, after a change of goalkeeper, produced a great display from the team as we won 8-0. A 2-0 victory against Old Hall in the next game meant that the team had to beat Christ Church to qualify for the semi finals. An agonising last minute goal meant that we lost 1-0, meaning that we finished 3rd in the group, thus not qualifying for the next round.
The children played well, and showed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
