KS2 'Road to Finch Farm' tournaments
Each KS2 class this year have signed up to play in the Warrington area 'Road to Finch Farm' football tournaments. The teams which win the tournaments go on to represent Warrington at Finch Farm, Everton FC's training ground, in the regional finals. Here's how each class fared in their tournaments!
Year 3
Despite there only being 7 teams entered, Y3 played really well in all the games they played. Having lost the first game v Cherry Tree they soon found their feet and began to play some good football, finally scoring with the last kick of the tournament, a penalty which was put away with aplomb.
The children were an asset to the school, and other teachers from different schools expressed their admiration for how they played! Well done Y3!
Year 5
20 teams entered the Y5 competition, so the teams were split into groups, St Bridget's playing in the larger of the 3 groups. Sadly, they lost the first game but gained momentum in the group by drawing the next two games. The game v Oughtrington was a must win and the team obliged, winning 5-0. A 1-1 draw in the last game left us on tenterhooks but we managed to get through to the quarter finals on goal difference. A defeat in the quarter finals ended St Bridget's run but they did brilliantly to get as far as they did! Well done Y5!
Year 4
Again, quite a few schools entered the Y4 competition so we were split into groups, St Bridget's being in one of the two larger groups. To begin with, 2 losses meant that the team were 'chasing their tail', The third game against Christ Church was much better, only losing to a last minute goal. The final game in the group v Ravenbank ended goalless despite St Bridget's having the better of the play, meaning we had a total of 6 points, not enough to qualify for the quarter finals. We then had two friendly matches, one against Broomfields which ended in a 1-0 victory, a brilliant set piece converted well and another game v Ravenbank where we lost 1-0.
The children were a credit to the school, and enjoyed every minute of the tournanment. Well done Y4!
Year 6
Year 6 finally played their tournament at Orford Jubilee on Thursday 19th May. 11 teams took part, and St Bridget's played every team in a league format. We started off well, drawing our first game but then lost the second. Another draw and a couple of close losses meant that Y6 were up against it to finish in the top 2. We then had a period of 5 games inside 45 minutes, finishing with 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss out of that section. In total, they finished in 8th place out of 11, a good result.
The children represented St Bridget's well, and played with good sportsmanship in all of their games. Well done Y6!
